Daniela Capaldo is an artist based in South Tyrol, whose multidisciplinary work explores the bridge between tangible and intangible, looking into the intersections of perception, identity, and transformation. As graduate of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Bolzano, her practice spans photography, video, performance, sound installations, and drawing, offering diverse media to examine the complexities of contemporary existence.
At the core of Capaldo’s practice lies an inquiry into the fragile equilibrium between human experience and constructed ideals. Her installation “Someone left the window open” immerses viewers in a sonic environment of artificial wind, inviting them to engage actively through their own breath. This interaction blurs the line between observer and participant, fostering a deeply personal connection to the artwork.
Capaldo’s exploration of themes such as motherhood, vulnerability, and resilience unfolds through both poetic and provocative gestures. In works like “Self-portrait as a pregnant woman”, she challenges the idealized narratives of maternity, revealing its multifaceted reality. Similarly, her documentation of actions like “eating snow” during global crises or her luminous yet unsettling depictions of flowers evoke a sense of beauty entwined with fragility.
Through her practice, Daniela Capaldo constructs visual and sensory experiences that promote contemplation of the impermanence and interconnectedness of the natural, human, and digital worlds.
